Jahna Concrete Ready Mix & Block Plant

Eliminating Plant-Wide Dust Buildup

C&W DustTech was asked to visit Jahna Concrete plant in Avon Park, Florida to assess an issue the team was experiencing with its existing dust collector. When C&W experts arrived at the plant, they saw that over an inch of dust had built up over the entire plant. This raised immediate concerns for employee health and safety, plant efficiency, and violation of OSHA regulatory requirements. Through a comprehensive audit and review, the team quickly determined that the existing dust collector was undersized and not designed to capture the volume of dust that could keep the plant clean and safe.

The C&W Solution

The C&W team engineered a complete solution that is optimized for the plant’s rigorous dust collection needs. The full system included:

  • A C&W Cartridge Pulse Central Dust Collector CP4320C. This collector processes dust from multiple points at 4,320 cubic feet per minute.
  • Spunbond polypropylene filter media that is 99.9% efficient.
  • Ducting that runs between two concrete mixers.
  • Two adjustable slide gates for flow control.
  • An Automatic Recycle System that moves collected dust back into the silo.
  • A NEMA 4 control panel with local disconnect, motor starters and protectors.

How It Works

The CP4320C pulls fugitive dust into the collector where the cartridges capture the fine particulate matter, allowing only clean air to pass back into the environment. The collector is positioned next to the silo, so it can recycle collected material back into the process via a pneumatic blower and ducting.

The solution eliminated the dust buildup throughout the plant, delivering several key advantages.

Reduced risks of clogged equipment, downtime and noncompliance.

Safer operations through greater visibility and decreased fall risk across the plant.

A healthier, more productive environment allows for better breathing and a cleaner, more satisfying workplace for employees.
